Our starting (breaking-in) program takes between 4-8 weeks.

minx2We start all the horses using only non-violent methods. We never use artificial aids or gadets on horses durng any of their training. We seek to understand each horses temperament and take extra time where necessary. It is paramount that the horse remains relaxed and confident during the starting process, we are careful not to overload or confuse the horse during this time.

All horses leave us with a sound understanding of the basic aids in all gaits, working in straight lines and circles, with and without other horses. We are very careful with young horses mouths and allow the horses to search for and accept the bit in their own time. cleobreakAll horses are schooled in hand and under saddle, our starting program includes daily grooming, rugging, float/truck loading and farrier handling. Horses are worked consistenly 5-6 days per week. We are happy to assist with any additional requests. The extent of the horse's education during the starting process depends on their individual level of maturity and strength. Some horses however, are ready to begin their competition careers by the end of their time with us.

It can be a daunting experience for a young horse to be moved form its comfortable home environment to a new place. We aim to make their stay with us as stress free as possble. We provide individual safe post and rail and electric paddocks. Horses are fed twice daily at regular times and provided with only excellent quality hard feed and premium hay. We are very particular in managing the weight and condition of horses in our care and take pride in turning them out with good muscle tone, top line and excellent overall condition.

We are always happy to have owners watch our training sessions and monitor the progress of their horse. We encourage owners to have at least 1 ride of their newly broken horse before it leaves us, we provide a lesson and give you pointers and tips for working with your horse. Many people find the idea of working with a fresly broken young horse quite intimidating, we are happy to provide on-going help and support, lessons or additional training if required.

Please refer to the gallery page to view horses we have recently started.
